CERT DAY, CAPTAINS MESSAGE

CERT Day was a huge success. We had 12 residents sign up willing to attend a meeting to learn more about CERT, and hopefully join our team. Before I go any further I'd like to address our teams swift action in regard to the single car accident in our Town Center's parking lot this afternoon. None of us are here to judge, or try to determine how it happened, but when it did our team members sprung in to action to help  their neighbor. They made sure the ignition switch was off and no fuel was leaking, they comforted, and bandaged the two elderly victims. while this was occurring 911 was called with a complete description of the victims condition and an exact location. Within minutes a Collier County Deputy arrived, followed by an East Naples Fire Control & Rescue District  Truck, and an EMS Ambulance. The female victim was taken via ambulance to the hospital, and the Deputy drove the male there once his car was towed to a repair shop. Both victims are now home and resting with no broken bones, but lots of bruises. You made a difference today. This accident could have turned out much worse if our team members were not there. Neighbor caring for neighbor, but doing it safely is the premise of CERT, and you all exemplify that premise.

My most sincere thanks to all of you.  You are why VeronaWalk CERT is the greatest team on Earth. My thanks also to Activities for providing us with cold drinks and cookies,Cafe Verona for their contribution, and the East Naples Fire Control  &  Rescue District for the equipment, and literature they provided, and their continuing commitment to CERT.
