NEXT MEETING JAN 23, 2014

On December 12, 2013 the VeronaWalk CERT team and their families celebrated the holiday season at our communities restaurant, Cafe Verona. Everyone had a wonderful time, and a fantastic meal.

Our next team meeting will be held on January 23, 2014 in our Town Center at 7:00 P.M. At that meeting the February 22nd drill will be discussed. All team members are urged to attend the meeting, and the drill.

TEAM MEETING - NOV. 21, 2013

 

 At the November 21, 2013 VeronaWalk CERT meeting equipment and 2 way radios were issued to two new team members.

We conducted a radio check for all team members. A radio was found with corroded batteries. Once again we must request all team members remove the batteries when not in use, and store the radios in a cool dry environment.

The County Wide February 22, 2014 was discussed. All team members are urged to attend this very important drill.

 

TEAM MEETING - OCTOBER 24

 

The October 24, 2013 VeronaWalk CERT meeting turned out to be a surprise 5th anniversary party. Cake and refreshments were served, and the team sang  a fantastic rendition of "Happy Anniversary CERT". The team member of the year was announced, it was a tie between each member, and certificates were issued.

Guests included the East Naples Fire Chief Kingman Schuldt, the CERT Coordinator from Collier County Emergency Management, and our teams good friend Mr. Greg Speers.

Our next team meeting will take place on Thursday November 21 at 7:00 P.M. in our Town Center. Radios will be issued to new members at this meeting, and any member with a radio concern, or problem should bring their radio to this meeting.

TEAM OF THE YEAR AWARD

 On Tuesdayy evening, October 8, 2013 at its monthly B.O.F.C. meeting the East Naples Fire Control and Rescue District recognized the VeronaWalk CERT team and awarded them a certificate of merit. This was in recognition of our team being named CERT Team of the Year by the Florida CERT organization at its recent conference. 

Many of our team member attended this meeting and accepted the award, and a tremendous round of applause.

SHIRIFF'S OFFICE PROVIDES TRAINING REGARDING LOST CHILDREN AND DEALING WITH ALZHEIMER'S PATIENTS

VeronaWalk’s CERT team September 26^th meeting consisted of a training session conducted by representatives of the Collier County Sheriffs Office. The team learned how we could assist Deputies in a search and rescue operation seeking lost children, and Alzheimer’s patients within our community.

Below are members of our team using radios and team approach in previous practice searches for a lost person in the community.

At the annual CERT conference in Daytona Beach Florida The VeronaWalk Community Emergency Response Team was recognized as team of the year. This prestigious award is a tribute to the men and woman of our team. We have a dedicated team that truly cares about their community. They exemplify the premise of CERT, neighbor helping neighbor in time of need, and doing it with training, and organization in a safe manner.

MEETING NOTICE

The next meeting of the
VeronaWalk CERT Team will be held on September 26, 2013 at 7:00 P.M. in our Town Center. 

The meeting will include a training session on search & and rescue. The experts from the Collier County Sheriffs Office will conduct this training. 

All team members, and any resident wishing information regarding joining our team are requested to attend.

TEAM MEETING - JULY 25, 2013

The July 25, 2013 meeting of the VeronaWalk CERT team included a training session on what to do if a team member must enter a residence. Notification to the Incident Commander, and documentation is imperative.  

An Officer of the East Naples Fire Control And Rescue District provided training on moving a victim, with an emergency transport blanket, a backboard, and hand carries.

No team member ever works alone at any time, safety is paramount.

TEAM MEETING JUNE 20

This evenings meeting focused on hurricane preparedness and how and when our team would converge after a disaster. 

Every team member received a fresh set of batteries for their 2 way radios. 

Two new members received equipment, and radios and instruction on use of said items.

TEAM MEETING: MAY 23, 2013

The VeronaWalk CERT teams May 23, 2013 meeting reviewed our after disaster  and call out procedures, and an equipment check prior to hurricane season. We also discussed the proclamation the B.C.C. will be presenting Collier County teams with on May 28th.

COLLIER COUNTY DECLARES "CERT WEEK"

Today (May 28, 2013) the Collier County B.C.C. issued a proclamation declaring June 2-8, 2013  as CERT Week in Collier County.

VeronaWalk CERT was one of the teams singled out for their own robust efforts despite financial and personnel decreases from the sanctioning bodies to keep a team alive and well. The B.C.C. has recognized that CERT is a vital part of community preparedness, and response capability.

TEAM MEETING - APRIL 25, 2013

The April 25, 2013 VeronaWalk CERT meeting offered a refresher in basic first aid. 

The team practiced bandaging and discussed first aid techniques to cover all emergencies. 

Our team constantly trains to better serve our community in time of need.

The next team meeting will be held on April 25, 2013 at 7:00 P.M. in our Town Center.

TEAM DRILL - MARCH 9, 2013

 On March 9, 2013 the VeronaWalk CERT Team held an in house drill. The scheduled County wide drill was canceled due to lack of participation by other teams. Our drill placed emphasis on  triage,  communications,  team member safety and Incident Command.

TEAM MEETING - FEBRUARY 28

One new team member was introduced at the February 28^th team meeting. Two residents currently in training were also introduced. 

The up coming March 9^th in house drill was discussed as was storage of equipment. One team 2-way radio was rendered un serviceable by storing it in a zip lock bag in a humid garage. Radios should be stored without batteries in them inside the home to keep them dry and serviceable. 

Our team will assemble in the Town Center at 8:00 A.M. on March 9^th to participate in our annual drill.

VW CERT TEAM TRAINS AT COLLIER COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT CENTER

On Saturday, January 12, 2013 VeronaWalk Cert as well as CERT Teams County wide were trained in Incident Command, and Damage Assessment at the Collier County Emergency Management Center. 

Our next team meeting will be held on February 28^that 6:00 P.M. We will prepare for the annual County Wide drill at this meeting.
