FINAL TEST

Our guy's from east Naples Fire after giving us the best of training, gave us the best of final exams. Engine 51 could not have done better.

This was one where the writer doesn't rememebr what happened. It was just bodies all over. Bleeding all over. Flames all over.

In an instant our teams knew what to do. Kill the flames, and stop the bleeding. Easy, right? No, the field was covered with hurdles.

One lady screamed so hard everyone wanted her out of the truck, but there ws a "live" electric line. This necessitated a call to FPL, and a prayer for the lady "Don't die, and stop screaming." In the end she was saved, and all fires put out. No injuries.

Te exam ended with a well deserved coffee and cake session. The Fire Chief even joined us, and kept his words brief as he too wanted to have some cake.

C.P.R TRAINING

Well what do you do once you find the person who needs your help. CPR is a good choice.

Our class had instruction at the last session on how to administer this life saving act. It's head back, clear throat and then (remember these numbers) 30 compressions followed by 5 breaths. Do it right, get help, and you may save a life.

Once again thanks to the trainers brought in to help us learn.

LET ME HAVE A TURN WITH THAT BIG HOSE !!!

Deep down some of the class probably thought they would get a chance to drive a fire truck or at least get out on the "hook and ladder" to put down a fire. Not exactly.

The Class did get instruction on how to identify types of fires and then how to approach them. It was stressed that students, even after graduation, never act alone. Our Safety is the primary concern.

Eventually we got our hands on the extinguishers and hit that big fire hard. We made a lot of smoke by aiming low and going from side to side. This was just the beginning.

After the fire extinguisher exercise we got instruction on use of the hose. This one was big. It definitely wasn't a garden hose. Some of us almost got launched into the sky from the thrust of water coming out. This is absolutely a team event.

CERT CLASS CANCELED DUE TO HURRICANE FAY

Unbelievable.

Training for emergency responders had to be canceled due to an unexpected situation. Hurricane Fay.

This "lady" had a mild impact on our community. There did not appear to be any major damage to homes, but several trees were relocated.

Another loss was "students" missed coffee and cake.

FIRST CLASS

Town Hall will host training for approximately 25 residents who upon graduation will b certified CERT members. The classes are scheduled for the next six weeks.

The initial session had strong support from the county who supplied Collier's Emergency Management Coordinator.

The class also had "students" from across Collier Blvd at Lely Resorts.

COMMUNITY SEEDS CERT TEAM

It was that time of the year when hurricanes were on every one's mind. Residents of this community were concerned and eager to learn what they could do to protect themselves, and their property.

A seminar was held at the Town Center. A local new station sent in their meteorologist to give a real good "heads up" on what to watch for during a hurricane alert. That's Amanda Mc Donald from WINK TV

In addition the E. Naples Fire Department also made a very informative presentation regarding neighbors being the first line of defense in the event of an emergency. This presentation laid the ceeds for resident's volunteering to become members of their own C.E.R.T. team
