SPECIAL MEETING - APRIL 23, 2010

On the day after the regular meeting our Team participated in a Special Training Session on April 23,2010.

Greg Speers, of the East Naples Fire Department, attended and assisted in a Triage Refresher course with a focus on using bandages, splints and taping. This was a fun experience but also quit valuable. When there is a real need our volunteers will be ready.

Team members were reminded of County Drill May 1.

FIRST AID/TRIAGE REFRESHER COURSE

The 60-90 minute first aid/triage refresher most of you wanted will be held on Friday,
April 23rd at 1:00 PM in our Town Center. Please bring a piece of cardboard that you can make a split out of if possible. You do not need to bring any of your equipment.

COUNTY DRILL - NAPLES AIRPORT

The drill will be held on May 1st. Our team will start at 11:15 AM, please be there approximately 45 minutes prior for a briefing ( 10:30 AM). Bring your equipment, helmets and vests. I'll arrange to have our radios there. This drill will be evaluated, not graded. This is not a test, its a tool for us to hone our skills should an emergency arise within our community. Cribbing will be optional, most teams have no training in this area.

Please be certain to sign a VeronaWalk CERT sign in sheet that day. Wear appropriate clothing and shoes, use sun block. Your safety is paramount.

The drill will be held at the Naples Municipal Air Port Mosquito Control Center.

SPRING TRAINING FOR OUR CERT TEAM

March 27 marked the day when the VeronaWalk C.E.R.T. left our community to attend a County wide training program. This was a beautiful Saturday morning which was a test in itself for the volunteers who gave up their time to participate in this session.

Three classes were offered and our team shinned in each one.

Classes were devoted to: Radios, Triage, and Urban Rescue. All members reported that they picked up quite a bit of new information thus believing the training was beneficial.
